Breeding Objectives
Selection of Suffolk Sires and Dams to breed long, well muscled Rams with structural soundness suitable to successfully cross over commercial flock ewes for the production of early maturing lambs with good weight gain and meat yield to market within three months.

The Ram Hoggets will be weighed and scanned in early March to establish S.I.L Rankings, and will be weighed and scanned second time in late October from which the rankings will be finalised.

Stud Selection Criteria

Stud sires with American bloodlines were initially crossed with our suffolk ewes of NZ pure and Australian genetics to breed longer, structurally sound sheep with desirable suffolk traits. Performance records including fertility, mothering ability, milking ability and weight gain in lambs resulted in data for S.I.L breeding values for growth and meat, for carcass weight, lean and fat values and for the estimated eye muscle area from annual scanning of both ewe and ram hoggets. Rankings have been established for the flock and also for the across flock summary created for a number of breeders. These have been a useful tool to help with selection of breeding ewes and rams for sale.
Lymington flock rams used over our own crossbred flock ewes are successfully producing well muscled lambs dressing out at 18 kgs at 90 days and have the potential to average 20 + kgs. Our goal is to have all lambs marketed by end of February each year.
