Ram Marketing

The committee has discussed whether members might want some indication of market values
and have decided that it would be unwise for the committee to offer formal advice to members.
However, there were some comments that came out of the discussion.

The trend to increased use of terminal sires continues, supply / demand assures a sound market.
It has been well documented that the outlook for lambs over the next few years is good.

Rams should not be undervalued.

What sort of price would be acceptable?

If we remember the MAF formula, 1 flock ram should equal the price of 10 lambs, then we should be
asking more like $600-$700

If the average prime lamb is worth $60 - $70, then Ram prices could justifiably average $400-$550.

As the lamb market is so strong, commercial rams should sell in a
range of $350 - $700 for top.
